DJs set the mood with music, personality
When selecting the DJ for your wedding reception, his or her personality is just as important as the music you choose.
A professional DJ does much more than pop in CDs from a play list. He or she sets the tone for your entire reception and serves as a master of ceremonies, announcing the important events of the reception, such as the toasts, bouquet toss and cutting of the cake. He or she makes sure all of the vendors are aware of the timeline of events, ensuring that your reception runs smoothly.
Make sure to be aware of the style of DJ you are contracting. He or she can be as involved or uninvolved as you want, and the personality should reflect that. A more charismatic DJ should get all of the guests involved on the dance floor and keep the party going.
Attire, personality, song choice, or more importantly, those songs on the "do not play list" should all be included in the contract before-hand. Seeing a live performance by your DJ before booking him or her is not a bad idea either, just as long as you OK it with whomever is hosting the event you are witnessing.
